Understanding LASIK:
LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis) is an outpatient procedure that typically takes about ten minutes to perform on each eye. It's an extremely effective procedure that is suitable for low, moderate and higher prescriptions. LASIK is currently one of the most frequently performed healthcare procedures in North America.
What is Custom LASIK?
Custom LASIK is a procedure that enables your surgeon to further customize the conventional LASIK procedure to individual eyes. Custom LASIK provides an additional level of data about your vision requirements and corneal patterns using wavefront technology. A device called wavefront analyzer measures the way light travels through your eye and compares it to an eye with perfect vision. This device then creates a 3-D wavefront map that is uniquely yours, in the same way that your "fingerprint" is unique to only you. This additional data is used by your surgeon to customize the LASIK procedure to your individual vision requirements.
Who Qualifies for LASIK?
LASIK can treat a very broad range of nearsightedness, astigmatism and farsightedness in people who are at least 18 years old, in good general health with a stable prescription and have no eye disease. Candidates must have realistic expectations about their results- LASIK is not right for everyone.
The Right Procedure for You
The actual LASIK procedure process is performed the same way in both conventional LASIK and Custom LASIK. Your doctor will recommend which procedure is best for you and will determine if you benefit from the higher level of customization that Custom LASIK may provide.
Everyone's eyes are different your pre-procedure consultation with our doctors will help determine the range of your probable outcome based on your particular prescription, healing profile and expectations. Your NVISION affiliated eye care professional will help you make the best choice for you.
A Word about Risks
LASIK has become one of North America's most frequently performed surgeries. Any surgery, however, has risk. For more information about LASIK, contact our office.
